What treatment costs in Central London
Each practice publishes a lowest “from” price for a treatment. The table shows the middle (median) of those prices for Central London practices, next to the same figure for all of London.
| Treatment | Central London | All of London | Practices |
|---|---|---|---|
| Check-up or new patient exam | £80 | £55 | 107 |
| Hygienist appointment | £115 | £75 | 148 |

Routine care costs much more here. A hygienist appointment has a median of £115, against £75 across London. That is about 50% more. A root canal is £550, against £450.
The higher prices do not apply to everything. Invisalign costs the same as the London median, and the median single implant price is slightly lower.
The three areas are very different
- Westminster has 257 practices, more than any other borough in London. 130 of them are in the W1G postcode around Harley Street and Wimpole Street. Only 1 of those 130 offers NHS treatment.
- Kensington and Chelsea has 72 practices. Its median root canal price is £625, the highest in London.
- The City of London has 35 practices, mostly used by people who work there. Its median hygienist price is £125, the highest in London. It has no general NHS dental practice.
Practices in all 3 areas have high Google ratings. The average is 4.7 out of 5, against 4.2 in East London. Google collects these ratings, not us.
NHS dentistry is hard to find here
51 of the 364 Central London practices offer NHS treatment. That is about 1 in 7. In early October 2026, 34 of them told nhs.uk they were taking new adult NHS patients: 20 in Westminster and 14 in Kensington and Chelsea.
Fewer adults see an NHS dentist here than anywhere else in London. In the 2 years to March 2026, 26.8% of adults in Westminster saw an NHS dentist, and 27.0% in Kensington and Chelsea. That is about 1 in 4. The London figure is 36.9%. The City’s figure is lower still, but very few people live there. See our NHS dental access page for every borough.
There are no catchment areas for NHS dentists, and you do not have to register with one. You can use an NHS practice near home or near work, in any borough. Our NHS dentists in London guide explains the charges and how to find a practice taking new patients.
If you work in Central London but live elsewhere
Many people use a dentist near the office rather than near home. If that is you, our station guides may be more useful than the borough pages:
Oxford Circus · Bank and Monument · Victoria · Waterloo · London Bridge · Liverpool Street · King’s Cross · Paddington · Baker Street
