Dental implants cost in London: what you can expect to pay in 2026

A single dental implant in London starts at a median of £2,100. That figure comes from 288 London practices that publish a single implant price on their own website. Half of them start between £1,700 and £2,800.

These are starting prices, not full quotes. A “from” price often covers the simplest case. Some practices also quote for the implant post only, without the crown. So the price you are quoted after a consultation can be higher. Always ask for a written quote that shows everything.

For All-on-4, check whether the price is for one jaw or both. Most practices price it per jaw.

What a single implant price should include

A single implant has 3 parts:

  • The implant post. A small titanium screw that the dentist places in your jawbone. It acts as the root of the new tooth.
  • The abutment. A connector that joins the post to the crown.
  • The crown. The tooth you can see, made to match your other teeth.

A full quote should cover all 3. It should also cover the consultation, X-rays and any 3D scan (called a CBCT scan) needed to plan the surgery. Some practices quote for the post only and charge for the abutment and crown separately. We see this often, and it is the main reason two quotes are hard to compare.

What makes the price go up

Not enough bone. After a tooth is lost, the jawbone in that place slowly shrinks. If there is not enough bone to hold the implant, you may need a bone graft first. In the upper back jaw, you may need a sinus lift, which adds bone under the sinus. Both add cost and can add several months to treatment. The 3D scan at your consultation shows whether you need them. Ask for these to be priced separately in your quote.

A front tooth. A front tooth must match the teeth next to it exactly in shape and colour. That takes more work from the dentist and the dental technician.

The implant brand. Brands such as Straumann and Nobel Biocare have many years of research behind them and usually cost more. You can ask your dentist which brand they use and why. Write the brand down. A future dentist will need it if the implant ever needs repair.

The dentist’s experience. Placing implants is surgery. It needs training beyond general dentistry. Ask how many implants the dentist places each year and what happens if one fails.

Does a central London practice cost more?

Not in our data. For single implants, the median starting price is £1,895 in Westminster (47 practices) and £1,800 in Camden (11 practices). It is £2,950 in Croydon (13 practices) and £2,900 in Harrow (11 practices). Many borough samples are small, so treat these as a rough guide. The lesson is to compare practices, not postcodes.

The number of practices offering implants does vary a lot by borough. These counts are practices whose own websites say they offer implants:

Barking and Dagenham has the fewest, with 8. Waltham Forest has 12 and Hackney has 14. Our dental implants in London directory lists practices by borough, with published prices where they have them, and links to each practice’s CQC registration.

Are dental implants available on the NHS?

Rarely. The NHS offers a denture or a bridge to replace a missing tooth, because these work for most people. NHS implants are usually only for people who cannot manage with a denture. NHS hospital guidance lists groups such as:

  • people who have had surgery for head and neck cancer
  • people born with missing teeth because of an inherited condition
  • people who lost teeth in a serious accident
  • people with no teeth in a jaw who have had continuing problems with well-made dentures

These cases are referred to a hospital dental service, such as the dental implant service at Guy’s and St Thomas’. You cannot get an NHS implant by asking a high-street dentist. Our article on free dental implants in the UK explains the routes in more detail.

Dental schools are not a source of cheap implants. Student clinics in London offer routine care, not implants.

How to keep the cost down

Get 2 or 3 written quotes. Ask each practice for a treatment plan that lists every stage and one total price. This is normal, and a good practice will not mind.

Check the finance terms. Many implant practices offer finance, sometimes at 0% over 12 to 24 months. Look at the total you will repay, not only the monthly payment.

Check your dental plan or insurance. Many dental plans do not cover implants, or pay only a small amount towards them. Read the policy before you book.

Think about the alternatives. A bridge or a denture costs less. Your dentist can explain what each option means for the teeth next to the gap.

Thinking about going abroad?

Some people look at clinics in Turkey and other countries because the advertised prices are lower. Our article on dental implants in Turkey vs London explains why prices differ and what can go wrong. Frequently asked questions

How long do dental implants last?

With good care, an implant can last many years, often for life. Reviews of long-term studies have found that more than 9 in 10 implants are still in place after 10 years. The crown on top wears and may need replacing after some years. Cleaning well, seeing a hygienist and not smoking all help an implant last.

Can I get a dental implant if I smoke?

Yes, but smoking makes an implant more likely to fail. It slows healing and harms the gums and bone around the implant. Most dentists will ask you to stop smoking before surgery and while the implant heals.

How many teeth can one implant replace?

One implant usually holds one crown. If several teeth are missing, 2 implants can hold a bridge of 3 or more teeth. A full arch of teeth can be fixed on 4 to 6 implants.

What is the cheapest way to replace all my teeth?

Full dentures are the cheapest. The London median starting price for private dentures is £600. On the NHS, complete dentures are a Band 3 treatment, which costs £332.10 in 2026/27. Fixed implant options such as All-on-4 cost much more but are more stable.

How long does implant treatment take?

Usually several months. After the post is placed, the bone needs time to grow around it before the crown is fitted. If you need a bone graft first, it takes longer. Your dentist should give you a timeline with your quote.

Prices are published starting prices from London practice websites, read in October 2026. Always ask for a full written treatment plan before you agree to treatment.
